Braker Lane, Suite 200, Austin, Texas 78759

Gravity has been used traditionally in the search for oil and gas to constrain the location of geologic features and structures; it is a relatively inexpensive method compared to seismic methods and can be used as a reconnaissance tool. The improved gravity fields derived from recent satellite missions provide better regional fields and benefits for geodetic applications. Of late, gravity has been used to monitor fluid movement and monitor subsidence, subjects related to the production of oil and gas. However, it is one method in a myriad of others.

This talk is intended to cover basic concepts and background for those not familiar with the oil and gas industry including the nature of oil and gas, fluid properties, fluid movement, and how gravity might be used in exploration and production.

Coffee & cookies will be served
For further information, please contact 471-5573

Speaker Dr. Francis Condi Center for Space Research Time and Place January 10, 2017 – Tuesday – 2:00 PM WPR Building, Conference Room 2.806 3925 W.
